Monika Surowiec Appointed European Climate Pact Ambassador

The designer, who presented her collection during the first edition of Trend Station, focuses on luxury upcycling understood as an original, authorial methodology of working with existing resources. In her practice, materials are not treated as neutral raw matter, but as archives – carriers of time, memory, traces of use, and earlier narratives.

Her design process is rooted in the analysis and deconstruction of existing garments and textiles, from which she extracts hidden structures, qualities, and meanings. Upcycling is not approached as an aesthetic gesture or a one-off action, but as a systemic design strategy in which formal decisions arise from the material’s history rather than from the impulse to create something new.

Her practice combines craftsmanship with new technologies, including Digital Product Passports (DPP), which enable the documentation of material origins, creative processes, and the contextual background of each garment. Alongside her design work, she is actively engaged in research and education, focusing on the role of fashion in environmental and cultural responsibility.

Her role as an ambassador of the European Climate Pact represents a natural continuation of this approach – translating experience gained in the studio and educational settings into a broader public dialogue on quality, durability, and the meaning of production in contemporary fashion.
